Icelandic Sheep

Our newest additions to the farm this year are our Icelandic sheep. We have a small flock of registered Icelandics we acquired from a dear friend of ours here in MI. We will be expecting our first lambs in the spring of 2010. We will maintain a breeding/fleece flock as well as offering lambs in the fall to our customers for meat. We will also be offering a line of soaps and lotions made from the milk of our icelandics, starting this summer/early fall. They are one of the only animals on the farm we have that isn't classified as a heritage breed here in the US, but they are truly one of the purest varieties of sheep in the world. They have changed very little over the course of time, since the Vikings carried them across the seas in the holds of their ships. Icelandic sheep are exceptionally beautiful on the hoof, and wonderfully succulent on the fork. We chose them over other breeds for their cold hardiness, their ability to thrive on pasture, and their overall resilience. They are beautiful and versatile, and we thoroughly enjoy their presence here on the farm. They are here to stay!!

The pastures are full of flocks, and the valleys are covered with grain. Everything shouts and sings for joy.
